World Book Day 2024

World Book Day 2024 had a theme of Read Your Own Way. At Farfield, we celebrated with a bedtime story theme day. We dressed in pyjamas and brought in book buddies and blankets from home to make cosy reading spaces in our classrooms. Throughout the day we read lots of stories and took part in lots of 'bookish' activities. Our families joined us to share some special reading time and our class teachers swapped to share their favourite picture books with pupils they aren't usually able to share stories with. Our very popular book potato competition took place with all the entries displayed proudly on the library bus. Our fantastic winners (voted for by our Reading Ambassadors) were Leo (RG), Hannah (1G) and Lily (5S). There were some truly inspired creations!

This is what some of our families had to say about their storytime:

'It was lovely to be able to come and see Freddy read in school today. We had fun reading Freddy's favourite books from class. His reading is coming on very well with help from his teachers.' (Freddy's mum)

'This afternoon was fun. Benjamin enjoyed me meeting his friends and looking at books.' (Benjamin's mum)

'It was good to spend some one to one time with Esmee in school. We read lots of books together. I really enjoyed storytime with 2G - lovely warm welcoming class and lovely teachers. It was a really good afternoon.' (Esmee's mum)

'I really enjoyed spending time with Alice reading lots of books. It's nice to spend some one to one time with Alice.' (Alice's mum)

'I enjoyed the reading session today. Me and Haidar read The Very Hungry Caterpillar, one of Haidar's favourites. We also read the 3 Little Pigs and enjoyed building a straw house, where Haidar acted as the big bad wolf and huffed and puffed it down. Thank you for providing such a lovely environment for children and parents today.' (Haidar's mum)

'Millie and myself enjoyed this morning. We read 4 books - all new to both of use and Millie loved the books where we had to lift the flap up so I'm going to order her some similar books.' (Millie's mum)

'I loved the nursery reading group today. It was an absolute pleasure to attend. A good book, a teddy bear, a blanket and a snuggle with my little girl in the school setting, surrounded by her teachers and friends. Couldn't get any better! Thank you for a lovely morning.' (Neave's mum)

'It was great 👍. It was so lovely being able to spend some quality time with Jacob. I'd love to come into school again sometime for some other activities.' (Jacob's mum)

'I really enjoyed myself.' (Bradley's mum)

'I absolutely enjoyed coming, today it was so nice just to spend time with Amelia, you have a lovely classroom set up and I felt very welcomed. You have a lovely classroom set up and it was nice to see all the teachers; Mrs Brannan, Mrs Sykes and Miss Towler all spoke to us. Thank you for arranging it - I loved my time there.' (Amelia's mum)
