  • FARFIELD CHILDREN CAN be Mathematicians!

    Fri 09 Feb 2024

Today was our MATHS DAY and it's been MARVELLOUS!

The children and adults came to school dressed in numbers, spots, stripes, shapes, there was even a domino! All of children have taken part in a day full of fun maths activities. There have been timestable battles, problems to solve and puzzles to explore. The children have shown their excellent teamwork and problem solving skills throughout the day.

We would like to keep the maths going at home by sharing an app your child can use. As a school we follow White Rose Maths and you can download their 1 Minute Maths app for free. The app is great practise for children in all year groups. In early maths we really focus on developing the children’s subitising (being able to recognise how many of something without having to count them) with numbers up to 5. There are some lovely quick opportunities to practise this on the app. There's also addition, subtraction, multiplication and division with appropriate challenge for all children in school. You can take a look at the website here https://whiteroseeducation.com/1-minute-maths or just search it in your app store. Just 1 minute every school day on the app each week in the school year would be an extra 3 hours of maths practise for your child!

Thank you for all your support with our maths day. As it is also Children's Mental Health Week, the money donated today will be sent to 'Youth In Mind' in support of children's mental health.

  • FARFIELD CHILDREN CAN show an attitude of gratitude

    Thu 08 Feb 2024

This half term, through myHappymind, all children have developed their understanding of why gratitude matters and how you can develop gratitude as a habit.

Children have been learning the different ways to express gratitude and each class at Farfield now has a 'Wheel of Gratitude' where children can spin the wheel and express gratitude to themselves, others and for experiences!

There are some amazing examples of classroom displays where children are expressing what they are grateful for!

A special congratulations to Hela who Miss Mann chose as the winner of her very own Arabella.

Gratitude is key to wellbeing and resilience and we’re all about making it a habit!

  • FARFIELD CHILDREN CAN create celebration cards for Eid

    Thu 08 Feb 2024

From Nursery to Year 6, the children have been busy creating Eid cards for Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.

The Department of Children’s Services are launching a new competition for 2024 and have invited all the young people of Bradford to produce two images that can be used in celebration cards for the Council to be sent out during the two Eid celebrations in 2024.

Our best designs are being entered into the competition and we hope all those celebrating this April have a wonderful time!

  • Whole School Assembly - Our Voice Matters

    Mon 05 Feb 2024

This morning our whole school assembly was with Harriet. This week is Children’s Mental Health Week - the theme this year is ‘Our Voice Matters’. Harriet talked to us about how it is important to share our opinions, thoughts and feelings. She talked about how our voices matter and that we have the right to say how we’re feeling and express what we need - doing this can help us to feel better.

  • Whole School Assembly - British Values

    Mon 29 Jan 2024

This week in whole school assembly with Mrs Atkinson, we were thinking about British Values. We talked about what British Values are and why they are so important. The children had some great ideas about the many things that we do at Farfield to promote these values and how they fit into our school culture. Over the next few weeks, we are all going to look out for our British Values posters in our classrooms and around school and try to think about how the things we learn about and our work on displays links to the values of Democracy, The Rule of Law, Mutual Respect and Individual Liberty.

  • FARFIELD CHILDREN CAN share their learning

    Fri 26 Jan 2024

Our Curriculum Crew met with Mrs Gale to reflect on their learning from the Autumn term and tell her what they thought about the changes made to our curriculum this year.

This is what they had to say:

  • A Hero Called Wolf - FARFIELD CHILDREN CAN write amazing things linked to our whole school book!

    Fri 26 Jan 2024

Our whole school book for the beginning of the Spring term is 'A Hero Called Wolf' by Lucy Rowland. The story follows a wolf who turns his life around with the use of a library card - instead of playing the villain, he spends his time more effectively by going to the library and reading. However here he finds that as a wolf he is never the hero of the story. He learns through his actions that heroes don't have to be handsome or rich and that kindness and bravery can be just has heroic. Wolf then goes on to write his own story with himself as the hero.

During the first three weeks back children were immersed in the story and then created their own piece of writing based around the book. The displays in school show the creativity, outstanding writing and imagination of the children and it has been a delight to see them so invested in their work. Year 2 and Year 6 shared a story time together where they shared the stories they had written with each other. It was lovely to see the children enjoying their own work and the joy it brings to others.

  • Whole School Assembly - Making Good Choices

    Mon 22 Jan 2024

This morning Adam came to do our school assembly. He talked to us about voting and how to choose the best things. We voted for our favourite biscuits and Farfield decided that Oreo’s are the best!
Adam then talked to us about how the best thing isn’t always the best choice. If we had Oreo’s for breakfast, dinner and tea it wouldn’t be the best for our bodies. He talked to us about making the right choices and how sometimes that can be hard but that we should always try and make kind choices.

  • FARFIELD CHILDREN CAN impress real life Authors

    Fri 05 Jan 2024

In September our whole school book was about a Girl and a Dinosaur and Dinosaurs became the theme for our September starter.

Once we finished our writing unit on 'The Girl and the Dinosaur', we sent the author (Hollie Hughes) some examples of the children’s writing and photos of our display.

She said, ‘This is absolutely amazing to see, and the work the children have produced is phenomenal! Thank you so much for choosing The Girl and the Dinosaur to work on!’

She very kindly sent us a signed copy of the book plus a signed copy of her brand new story and also a bookmark for every child in school.

Well done Farfield, you have really impressed the author with your writing.

  • FARFIELD CHILDREN CAN - OH YES THEY CAN!

    Thu 04 Jan 2024

To engage our children in their writing of fairytales, we decided what better than to have a live pantomime in school!

This performance which required lots of audience participation, immersed the children in the story of Cinderella and encouraged them to share their own fairytale ideas.
