  • Y4 Residential to Nell Bank

    Fri 31 Mar 2023

The children in year 4 very much enjoyed the annual residential trip to Nell Bank.

They took part in lots of team building activities including:

Crossing the river: During this activity, children had to work together to cross the river using blocks without falling in. Eventually, all of the children crossed the river safely.

The Hula Hoop Challenge: The children worked together in groups to put their whole body through the hula hoop in the quickest time possible. After their first attempt, they magpied strategies from other group to make sure they improved their time on their next go.

The drainpipe challenge: This challenge proved a bit tricky for the children. The aim was to use a selected number of drainpipes to get a ball into a bucket without dropping in. The children had to be quick and develop strategies together to complete this game.

On the second day, the children completed a 6 mile walk through Ilkley Town Centre, across Ilkley Moor to the Cow and Calf and back to Nell Bank. They did stop for ice cream on the way back as a reward.

They also embarked on a woodland walk where the children explored the extremely muddy woods to learn about the different types of trees. Finally they tried their hand at pond dipping using nets to find mini beasts in the water. They were lucky enough to find 3 newts!

As you can see, amazing time was had by all!

  • myHappymind - Celebrate - what our children think

    Fri 31 Mar 2023

The children have now completed the second module of myHappymind – Celebrate.

We asked what they had learnt through the Celebrate sessions, here are some of the things they said:

‘There are more strengths that you can have than you think there are, so you can be using more than one at a time.’ (Andre Y5)

‘We can be good friends, work together and never fight.’ (Isaac, Hannah, Ivan RP)

We asked the children if they knew what their strengths were, here are some of the things they said:

‘I’m a good friend, I help people when they fall over’ (Ronnie RP)

‘I’m honest, I always tell the truth.’ (Mila Y1)

    ‘Bravery and teamwork’ (Abdullah Y4)

‘Creativity, perseverance, zest and teamwork.’ (Eloise Y6)

We asked the children to describe a time they had used their strengths, here are some of the things they said:

‘I’m a good friend - when my friends are a bit upset I tell the teachers. If people have no one to play with I ask if they want to play with me or someone else.’ (Rosie-Leigh Y2)

‘At scouts someone knocked into me and I fell into the fire extinguisher and I only cried medium so I was brave, just like when my horse cantered away back to the stables, I was brave then too.’ (Layla Y3)

I used leadership when we went against the year 6s in football, I got everyone in a group to talk about what we should do and tactics.’ (Andre Y5)

  • Y6 Spring Exhibition

    Thu 30 Mar 2023

The Y6 children showcased their amazing work from last term during an exhibition for parents. There was a variety of work to look at, all of which shows the learning around the topic of slavery. The non-chronological reports completed in English lessons particularly wowed the adults that came to look round.

The parents who visited the exhibition gave feedback on what they saw, here are some of the things they said:

"Looking at all the posters, I could see how much effort the children had put in."

"I enjoyed it today, I learnt a lot about slavery - it wasn't something I learnt about in school."

"The work was fantastic, well done all Year 6."

"I liked seeing all the children's work, learning about slavery and enjoyed seeing my child's work."

  • Y3 Stone Age Experience

    Tue 28 Mar 2023

Today the children in Year 3 travelled back in time 15,000 years to retell a story based on Stone Age painting.

Luke, from Alive and Kicking Theatre brought to life a story with cave paintings and a puppet show. The children enjoyed a a full morning workshop acting out the story.

This was such a fun, interactive way to learn about this term's topic - Year 3 loved it!

  • World Book Day 2023 - Reading Umbrellas

    Fri 03 Mar 2023

To showcase Farfield's love of reading for World Book Day 2023, we were inspired to create book themed umbrellas.

These are now hanging in our KS2 corridor and they look AMAZING!

We had designs inspired by class reads, English texts, whole school books and our favourite authors and characters.

What a creative crew we are! Though, we do hope it doesn't lead to any accidents as we are all looking up to the ceiling in admiration!
