Spring Starter - 🥜🧀'Barnaby Unboxed'🧀🥜
Fri 30 Jan 2026This term, our whole-school book was Barnaby Unboxed by The Fan Brothers - a magical, moving and visually rich picture book about friendship, resilience and finding your place in the world. The story perfectly supports our whole-school theme of building a community where everyone belongs and celebrating what makes each of us unique.
Through Barnaby’s journey, our pupils learn an important message: being perfect isn’t what makes you special - being yourself is. From Nursery through to Year 6, every year group enjoyed reading the book and exploring Barnaby’s story together.
The text inspired a whole-school writing unit, with all pupils completing work linked to the book. In Key Stage 2, children focused on persuasive writing and each year group produced some excellent pieces of writing.
We are incredibly proud of our pupils - Farfield Children Can be writers!

BRIGHT Assembly - Hopes
Tue 27 Jan 2026This week's BRIGHT assembly focused on High Hopes. We shared the story “Bears Don’t Read” and talked about how George the bear believes in himself and keeps going, even when others doubt him. The story shows us how having high hopes and determination can help us achieve our goals. Talk to your child at home about something they hope to achieve and how they can keep going, even when things feel challenging.

BRIGHT Assembly - Goals
Tue 20 Jan 2026In our BRIGHT assembly this week, we followed the story Billy, whose goal is to get to a fancy dress party with her cat. Despite lots of obstacles (including a dragon) she doesn’t give up and keeps going! We reflected on goads we have achieved and that although we may have come across some bumps along, we have got there in the end! We know we can do it because Farfield Children Can!

BRIGHT Assembly - Independence
Tue 13 Jan 2026In our BRIGHT assembly this week, we followed the story of a little mouse. The mouse is a character who feels ignored and wishes he could be big and loud like the lion to gain the respect of others. The story shows the mouse’s independence as he sets off on his journey to find his inner confidence, rather than needing to change who he is on the outside. WE discussed the importance of finding your inner voice and realising that everyone, no matter how small, can have a “Lion Inside” them.

Whole School Assembly - 🗓Happy New Year🗓
Mon 12 Jan 2026This morning Mrs Atkinson spoke to us about New Year. We found out all about where celebrating New Year originated, how it is celebrated in different places and that some people make resolutions. Miss Whaites is going to try and spend less time on her phone and Miss Partington is going to try and prepare more food herself. We also talked about what we were thankful for in 2025 and how this linked to our myHappymind learning on having an 'Attitude for Gratitude'.

BRIGHT Assembly - Resilience
Tue 06 Jan 2026In our BRIGHT assembly this week, we read the story 'Giraffes Can't Dance' by Giles Andreae. Gerald believes he can't dance and is teased by the other jungle animals. It is only when he meets Cricket that he realises he can dance when he tries. The message we take from this story is to be resilient and find the strength to keep trying when things get tough. Remember you can do anything you put your mind to as long as you don't give up!

Farfield Primary & The Story Project
Mon 05 Jan 2026Since choosing to delivery our PSHE curriculum through The Story Project, we have seen that our children have developed their ability to talk about a wider range of emotions. As such, you will have seen our posters on the doors sharing how the children say they feel when they are spoken about. We are really proud that The Story Project have now adapted these posters to share with all schools!
