FARFIELD CHILDREN CAN work together to earn Class Points!
Mon 21 Oct 2024This year saw the launch of Class Points. Miss Mann introduced this to the children when they returned in September. Points can be awarded by adults when a class is working as a team to show they are ready for learning, they are engaged in their learning, they are taking responsibility for surroundings and other aspects of team work. Class Points can also be awarded to individuals when they are representing their class positively, for example by showing kindness to others.
Today the points for our first half term have been counted and Miss Mann announced that the winners were 3Y and 5B. Each class has earnt an afternoon to enjoy together with their adults doing activities of their choice - CONGRATULATIONS 3Y and 5B!

Whole School Assembly - Diwali
Mon 14 Oct 2024Today we had a special guest leading our whole school assembly about Diwali. Larinda is a member of the Sikh religion, and he told us all about Guru Hargobind Sahib and Emperor Jahangir who were great friends and Chanda who was jealous of their friendship. Chanda had the Guru arrested! The Sikh followers were not happy and protested this. The Emperor was released and the Guru apologised for Chanda's actions, but the Guru would not leave because there were other innocent prisoners in the palace. They were then also allowed to leave as long as they could hold the Guru's cloak. That day the Guru saved all of the prisoners and on that day, it was Diwali. We learnt that Diwali celebrates good overcoming evil and light overcoming darkness. Diwali is celebrated in Sikh, Hindu and Jain faiths as well as by some Buddhists.

FARFIELD CHILDREN CAN write to save the planet!
Fri 11 Oct 2024In September, we welcomed children back to school with three fun filled days based on the book 'There's A Rang-Tan in my Bedroom'.
Children were able to meet and greet our very own orangutan visitor as well as create films featuring him and his friends. Children also experienced other workshops that helped bring the story to life. They enjoyed meeting some creepy crawlies from around the world as well as creating music based on the sounds of the rainforest.
Throughout this time, children learned about deforestation and the importance of looking after the environment and the things in it. They have worked hard to produce some fantastic pieces of writing which highlight the importance of sustainable living .

Whole School Assembly - Elephant in my Kitchen
Mon 30 Sep 2024This morning in assembly, we listened to author Smriti Halls read her book, 'Elephant in my kitchen'. In the story, wild animals move into Rafi's house and he has to figure out a BIG PLAN to get them back to their own homes. A funny, silly and hugely topical picture book about the world's climate crisis. We talked about how this linked to our whole school book, 'There's a Rang-Tan in my bedroom' and what we can do at Farfield to save our planet.
You can watch Smriti read her story here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBmeOIrN39Y

Whole School Assembly - When good is bad
Mon 23 Sep 2024This morning, Adam (one of our Governors) visited to lead our assembly. He talked to us about how sometimes things we think are good can sometimes be bad. For example, water is really good for us but it isn't good when there is too much and it causes floods. This can also apply to our tongues - we can use them to say really kind things but sometimes, they can be used to say things that are unkind too. We discussed how important it is to use our words wisely and our tongue kindly.

Whole School Assembly - Dyslexia Awareness Week
Mon 23 Sep 2024This morning Mrs Atkinson spoke to us about how it feels to learn when you have dyslexia as soon it is Dyslexia Awareness Week. She explained what children with dyslexia might need to help them with their learning in class. She also talked about what we could do if we have a friend who has dyslexia: reminding them about what to do next, being patient and reading things aloud for them. Mrs Atkinson explained that we are all unique and having dyslexia is something that makes some people unique. We found out about successful and famous people who have dyslexia including Richard Branson and Holly Willhouby.
