  • Road Safety

    Wed 12 Jul 2023

Children across school from Years 1-6 have taken part in Road Safety workshops over the last couple of days.

Year 1 and 2 had a reminder about road safety. That they should hold hands with an adult, find a safe place to cross, stop, look, listen and think as they cross the road carefully. Everyone got a sticker with all these reminders on too.

Year 3 headed out to Reevy Crescent to practise crossing the road safely.

The older children heard stories of how being distracted when crossing the road by the shouts of friends or by their mobile phones can put them in serious danger.

Remember: STOP, LOOK, LISTEN & THINK!

  • Science Day

    Mon 26 Jun 2023

Today, everyone at Farfield took part in our very own science day. We had a whole school focus on comparative and fair testing. Each year group was given a different investigation to complete throughout the day.

At the end of day, everyone was invited to come and visit Farfield’s Science Fair. Each class had science ambassadors who lead a shortened version of each investigation and were able to explain what they had learnt.

Have a look at our jamboard to see what the children said about our science day:

  • Young Bradford Poetry Project

    Fri 16 Jun 2023

As part of the Young Bradford Poetry Project with The National Literacy Trust, Year 4 visited the historic St George's Hall in Bradford town centre. The children toured the theatre and learned about its history. The facilitator was very impressed with Year 4's knowledge of Greek architecture which they recognised in the building and was wowed by their vocabulary. They also performed on the stage, reading out the poems they had written about growing up in Bradford. They were very confident and made us very proud with their endless enthusiasm and excellent behaviour throughout the trip.

  • Leaf

    Fri 26 May 2023

We returned from the Easter break to the captivating story of 'Leaf'. From Nursery through to Year 6, children have been engrossed in the journey made by 'Leaf' the polar bear, on his endeavour to find his way back home. This has resulted in some magnificent art displays created as a backdrop showcasing the incredible writing across school - from retelling of the story to letters and reports. Be sure to ask your child about the work they have done based on the book written by Sandra Dieckhman. If they have enjoyed the story as much as their writing suggests, you may be interested in some of her other books: 'The Magic Feather', 'The Secret Forest', 'Waiting for Wolf' and 'Then Dog Who Ate the World'. Sharing stories with your child and engaging them in books from an early age develops a love of reading which has a great impact on their writing as they grow up - feed their imagination!

  • myHappymind - Appreciate - what our children think

    Tue 23 May 2023

The children have now completed the third module of myHappymind – Appreciate.

We asked what they had learnt through the Appreciate sessions, here are some of the things they said:

You should treat someone how you want to be treated and then you are showing respect to each other.’ (Kayden Y3)

You need to show appreciation to yourself because then dopamine is released and that makes you happier.’ (Noah Y5)

If you appreciate someone then they feel appreciated by what you’ve said to them.’ (Evie-Grace Y6)

We asked the children what/who they appreciate, here are some of the things they said:

‘Everybody in my class.’ (Mitchell RG), ‘My friends in my class.’ (Alice Y1), ‘Alfie, my brother.’ (Noah Y2)

Life – because if there’s no life, there’s no happiness and no experiences to share with people – you have to show you appreciate those around you.’ (Divina Y4)

‘Difference – because if we were all the same the world would be a very boring place.’ (Noah Y5)

We asked the children why it is important to have and Attitude of Gratitude, here are some of the things they said:

‘It’s good to show this because people need to know that they’ve done enough, if not they might feel they should have done more and you have to engage with people so you can get to know them and help them more.’ Divina (Y4)

‘It’s very important to show gratitude because if you are always glum and not showing you appreciate people, they won’t engage with you anymore or talk to you or make the effort for you.’ (Evie-Grace Y6)
