Starting the summer term with 'The Barnabus Project'
Fri 13 May 2022We began the summer term reading 'The Barnabus Project', a magical story by The Fan Brothers.
The book tells the story of Barnabus, he is part elephant and part mouse and as such, likes eating peanuts and cheese! Barnabus showed the children that in his world, perfection really means being true to yourself and your friends, it's a place where by following his dreams he found where he truly belonged.
This was the inspiration for our whole school writing project.
Listen to The Fan Brothers read 'The Barnabus Project' here.

World Book Day 2022
Fri 04 Mar 2022This year for World Book Day, Mrs Brannan set the children 2 challenges.
1) To dress as a word
2) The Extreme Reading Challenge
There were lots of imaginative costumes but the winners were Oliver C in reception as 'Heavy', Willow in year 1 as 'Thing 1' and Macie in year 5 as 'Float'.
There were also some fantastic entries to The Extreme Reading Challenge and Mrs Nichols had a hard time narrowing it down to just one winner. Eventually she chose Charlie in 3A who showcased his reading talents upside down - extreme indeed!!
In class, the children took part in lots of wonderful reading activities. From book tasting to recommendations - the children enjoyed all things books today!

TREE-mendous tree planting!
Thu 03 Mar 2022On Thursday 3rd March we had a tree-mendous opportunity to do some planting across school. This was part of Bradford Council's "Tree for Every Child" project which aims to plant 55,000 trees - the equivalent of one tree per primary school child - over a two year period.
First of all Miss Greenwood's Reception class helped to plant three large cherry trees along the drive. They learnt all about the root systems and had a chance to compare how the bark and soil felt before helping to heave them into position.
Then some children from Y4, 5 and 6 had the chance to plant a variety of young trees (or whips as we found out they are called before growing any sideway branches). They learnt how to safely use a spade and how best to plant the whips before putting hazel, willow, apple and silver birch trees at the top of the field.
Even though it was a rather wet and rainy afternoon, everyone had lots of fun and we look forward to seeing our new trees grow over the coming years.

National Day of Reflection - Tuesday 23 March
Thu 25 Mar 2021Tuesday 23rd March was a special day – all across the UK people from all backgrounds and communities came together to reflect on the past year and
hope for a brighter future. We tied yellow ribbons to show we were observing a year since the first lockdown began. At 11am everyone at Farfield Primary and Nursery School observed a 1 minute silence and all of the children made lanterns to take home and place in their windows to light up the night.
