A special Farfield THANK YOU to everyone from across the world in CB23
Fri 09 Dec 2022Mrs Benson's husband is a HGV driver who talks to people from all over the UK and the World (some as far away as Australia) on CB Radio. He and his CB23 friends wanted to do something kind for all of the children at Farfield this Christmas. Today each child in school has received a gift purchased with generous donations from this group. We send a huge thank you to them all. Plumber Drummer
Tue 15 Nov 2022Key Stage 2 had a visit from the Plumber Drummer today. They enjoyed the performance, finding out how the sound is made and being able to ask questions.
The Plumber Drummer plays a series of pipes that make different sounds. Some make longer sounds and some shorter. The deeper sounds are made by the longer pipes as the vibration has further to travel. It can make 18 different notes and is built like a piano.
How do you make songs?
I improvise, I make it up and use my creativity combining the pieces I like and which sound good together.
How long did it take to build?
This one took 4 weeks. My first one took over 2 months though. I've slowly got better and better at building them.
How do you make the different sounds?
I can make a different sound with the tambourine on my feet. Kahong with a snare at the top and bass drum at the bottom. The foot peddle helps me play the rhythms. This means I can play solo and play without any electrics.

World of Work Days - STEM
Fri 04 Nov 2022In the first week of November, the whole school from Nursery to Year 6 took part in World of Work days. A huge range of volunteers visited the children from a wide range of careers including Marketing & Communication, Insurance, Construction, Environment Wardens, First Aid, Banking, Rail, RSPCA, Radiation Physics and Farming! Below is just some of what the children said they had learnt and enjoyed...
Covea Insurance - We learnt this is needed to protect ourselves. We liked the role play and talking about our pets.
Environment & Farming - We learnt that you have to get up at 5am to milk cows but that not every farm has animals. We liked finding out about getting the milk from the cows and how to make butter and cream.
Radiation Physics - We learnt about how x-rays work. We learnt all about John's career and all the countries he visited for research.
CRL Rail - We learnt that there are lots of jobs to do with the rail. We liked the dressing up the most!
Flat Stan First Aid - We learnt how to help and to call 999. We liked practising on Flat Stan and learning lots about the body.
Together Housing Marketing & Communication - We learnt about how things on the internet can't always be trusted. We liked the interviewing we did.
Robertson Construction - We learnt that it can sometimes be a dangerous job and you have to be safe. We liked working together as a team.
Arnold Laver - We learnt about what wood is used for and how it is used. We liked finding out about all the things that can be made like sheds.
Kier Construction - We learnt that construction involves teamwork and hard work. We liked building with the spaghetti and using the marshmallow as our cement!
RSPCA - We learnt that you have to have a house check before getting and animal. We liked finding out about the RSPCA and what they do.
YBS - We learnt lots of new vocabulary like budget, profit and fix cost. We liked planning the party.
Environment Wardens - We learnt that the officers have a camera and can issue fines. We liked joining in with them and litter picking.

Charlie's Magical Carnival
Mon 31 Oct 2022After our fantastic Farfield Carnival event in September, each year has used the whole school book 'Charlie's Magical Carnival' to inspire wonderful writing and artwork.
In the story, Charlie can't wait to go to the carnival. He wonders what amazing thigs he will see. Will there be lemonade rivers and lollipop trees? Will there be elephant taxis and a cake as big as the town square? Charlie can hear the drumming and cheering, and trumpeting - it's carnival time!
Take a look below at where the children's imagination took them...

Pumpkin Day 2022 - Foodbank Donations
Fri 21 Oct 2022We would like to thank the entire Farfield Family for their generous donations today.
It took a team of staff and children to collect, bag, box and load all of the tins and packets that were donated.
Mrs Nichols, Mrs Benson, Mr Clark and our KS2 Shining Stars Tooki, Gracie and Aaqif delivered all of the donated food to The Salvation Army Foodbank and St John's Foodbank.
Families in need will now have access to food in these increasingly difficult times.
Your generosity has made a huge difference to our community - THANK YOU.

Online Safety
Mon 10 Oct 2022Adam Syrop did our whole school assembly about how to keep yourself safe online. He shared the very important message that you should only share information about yourself with those you actually know.
PCSO Geoff Woodrow also visited Years 5 and 6 to do an online safety workshop. He discussed the apps we know about and the age restrictions of these. Geoff reminded us that we need to be aware of the back grounds of our pictures and our settings. All these things help keep us safe online. Most importantly we were reminded, 'If you wouldn't do it in the real world, you don't do it online!'
Guides to support parents and carers to keep their children safe online can be found here: https://nationalonlinesafety.com/guides
