FARFIELD CHILDREN CAN be Happiness Heroes!
Mon 06 Nov 2023Farfield Primary & Nursery School are proud to introduce you to our Happiness Heroes.
This is an exciting initiative from myHappymind. Our Happiness Heroes are a team of children who are our school's myHappymind Ambassadors. They lead the way in helping their fellow pupils look after their own mental health. Our Happiness Heroes all proudly wear their special myHappymind badge so everyone knows who they are!
Their first task was to share their opinions of myHappymind, this is what they said:
What do you enjoy about myHappymind?
‘I enjoy happy breathing, it helps if you are in the red or yellow zone.’ Millie-Grace (Y5)
‘It helps when you feel stressed or angry, it helps me to go back to the green zone.’ Casey-Leigh (Y5)
‘It helps you to learn things about your brain.’ Andre (Y6)
Do you use some of the strategies outside the lesson?
‘I use them when my siblings are annoying me – they’re in Reception and Y2.’ Andre (Y6)
‘I use finger breathing when people get on my nerves.’ Kaytee (Y5)
‘I was upset when my pet died so I used some finger breathing then.’ Kason (Y5)
Do you ever talk about myHappymind at home?
‘I remind my brother at home what we’ve learnt about the brain.’ Ernie-Joe (Y4)
‘I tell my family what I have learnt on a Monday.’ Kason (Y5)
‘I told my parents about what we’d been learning and that I’m a Happiness Hero!’ Andre (Y6)

FARFIELD CHILDREN CAN explain how their brain works!
Mon 06 Nov 2023Throughout the first half term of 2023, all of our children have completed the 'Meet Your Brain' module of myHappymind. This module teaches the children to understand how their brain works and how to ensure they look after it so that they can manage their emotions and be at their best. Growth mindset is a key part of this too. At the end of the module, each class teacher chose someone who had really shone in their sessions, to receive a special certificate from Miss Mann to celebrate this.
Congratulations to Eve & Allan in Reception, Mitchell & Skyla in Year 1, Willow & Connor in Year 2, Husnain & Henry-Lee in Year 3, Layla & Mikey in Year 4 Logan & Oliver in Year 5 and Noah, Ebony & Theodora in Year 6.
Families have proudly told us that children also share their myHappymind learning at home and two of these children are great examples of this. As well as their certificates, Skyla and Layla received the Meet Your Brain mascots, Bertie and Betty, to keep! These were kindly donated to school by the founder of myHappymind, Laura Ernshaw. Layla's thanks will be shared with Laura too!
We asked some of children about the Meet Your Brain module, this is what they said:
Do you enjoy myHappymind sessions?
‘YES!!’
What have you learnt during the Meet Your Brain Module?
‘Even though we have bad thoughts sometimes, you can tell someone you trust to help you.’ Andre (Y6)
‘Team H-A-P! They help you stay calm and make good choices when they work together.’ Albert (Y6)
‘I have learnt that if someone makes you happy, that releases dopamine.’ Kason (Y5)
When have you used Happy Breathing?
‘When someone was being mean, I controlled myself by doing some Happy Breathing.’ Albert (Y6)
‘I use Happy Breathing when the fire alarm goes off – I get stressed thinking there might be a fire.’ Millie-Grace (Y5)
‘If my siblings are annoying me or I feel stressed when I’m ‘Play Leading’.’ Andre (Y6)
When have you had a Neuroplasticity moment?
‘Public speaking – the more I do it, the more I do it, the better I get. It’s the same with my drills at rugby.’ Andre (Y6)
‘In maths we pracitse finding common factors and the more I do that the bettr I get at it.’ Millie-Grace (Y5)

A visit from the 'Plumber Drummer' - FARFIELD CHILDREN CAN feel the rhythm!
Fri 03 Nov 2023👨🏻🔧🥁👨🏻🔧🥁👨🏻🔧🥁👨🏻🔧🥁👨🏻🔧🥁👨🏻🔧🥁👨🏻🔧🥁👨🏻🔧🥁👨🏻🔧🥁👨🏻🔧🥁👨🏻🔧🥁👨🏻🔧🥁👨🏻🔧🥁👨🏻🔧
This afternoon, we had a very special musical treat, The Plummer Drummer!
Nathan explained how he created his unique instrument and how it makes different notes. He uses different lengths of pipes and flips flops to create the sound. He played us some original songs, we then clapped along and played guess the song!
The children were curious and asked questions to find out more about how he creates the music and how he feels playing in front of people.
Here is what the children had to say about their experience:
Nemat (Y6) - I enjoyed how he played and created the songs by replacing it in his own way.
Millie (Y5) - I liked how he’s practised for years and all the work he’s put in to make us happy!
Bobby (Y4) - I really liked the songs he did because he did some new and old songs that I recognised.
Henry-Lee (Y3) - I liked it because the music was very different but I knew the songs he was playing.

Year 6 Residential - FARFIELD CHILDREN CAN challenge themselves to overcome their fears!
Fri 03 Nov 2023The rain clouds cleared and the sunshine came out to provide great conditions for an amazing Y6 residential. Children have taken part in various activities which have seen them scale the dizzy heights of the tree climb and experience the mud bath that was grass sledging!!
The children have had a fantastic time and even the one rain shower that did visit, didn't dampen spirits. They have worked hard together to achieve goals they didn't think were possible and have supported one another to be successful.
'Tree climbing was my favourite because I achieved something I didn't think I would be able to do." Andre
"I think the crate challenge was the best because we had to work together to build a tower and then we got to knock it down." Melody
"I loved our bedroom because it was the biggest and the beds were really comfy!" Connor
A special congratulations to Theodora, Layla-Mae and Albert who received certificates for outstanding leadership and teamwork skills.

FARFIELD CHILDREN CAN be published authors!
Fri 20 Oct 2023During July 2023, our now Year 3 children, took part in a nation wide competition. We had been studying animals and their habitats so the opportunity for us to write some poetry AND enter a competition could not be missed.
The children all worked on their own piece of poetry writing and they all typed up their entries for the portal. We were delighted when we had so many children picked to be published. They received their copies of their books this week. They are currently enjoying them in their classes but the book will be available on the library bus soon! 📖

Whole School Assembly - Harvest
Mon 09 Oct 2023In today's whole school assembly, Adam talked to the children about Harvest and the Harvest Festival. Adam spoke about harvest meaning the 3G's to him Growth, Grateful, Generous. After singing cauliflowers fluffy, Poppie and Jake came were given a fruit and vegetable each. Jake was very happy with his strawberry, whilst Poppie understandably wasn’t so impressed with her swede. Adam spoke about the fact that this could be all someone could grow and they would eat this throughout the autumn and winter. Finally, he told us the story of stone soup. Where a village worked together to share ingredients to make a very tasty soup. Thank you to all of our families who brought donations today, these will be delivered to the foodbank this week.
